Vintage POWHATAN Solid Brass 2 1/2 inch FIRE HYDRANT GATE VALVE

  

Here is a wonderful and highly collectible Vintage POWHATAN Solid Brass 2 1/2 inch FIRE HYDRANT GATE VALVE. This Fire Hydrant Gate Valve was manufactured by the Powhatan Brass & Iron Works in Ranson, W. The company began as Shenandoah Brass & Iron in 1832 and was renamed Powhatan Brass & Iron Works in 1892, taking its from Chief Powhatan who was the supreme leader of the confederation of Algonquin tribes in the early 1600's. The facility closed in 2004.

It specialized in forging, machining and plating brass and iron fittings for fire fighting equipment. CONDITION: This Fire Hydrant Gate Valve appears to be in good working order with all parts moving easily, although it has NOT been personally tested. Please see pictures with the Gate Valve in Open, Semi-open and Closed positions. It has a nice patina and I did not attempt to clean it as I feel the patina adds to the appeal of the Gate Valve. MARK: The markings on the Fire Hydrant Gate Valve are "POWHATAN, RANSON, W VA" on both sides of the Gate Valve.

On the female side of the valve is "2 1/2 POWHATAN NH".
