C. 1890 Archibald Hose Cart antique hand drawn fire department apparatus
1890 Archibald Hose Cart - antique hand drawn fire department apparatus. This hand-drawn hose reel (not horse drawn hose carriage) is a very nice late 1800's turn of the century example. It features early cast iron hubs with brass dust covers, iron shod wooden wheels, iron pull handle & rope fixtures, as well as a nozzle holder. Hose carts come up for sale but few of this vintage or quality. She felt she had held it as long as she could and her children weren't interested in preserving it. She remembered a bit ironically that the town her grandfather was born in shared the name of the town where he was a firefighter, Springfield, though one was in Massachusetts and one was in Maine. The memory was a bit foggy but she thought he was born in ME and served in MA before moving the family to CT. As a local historian in western Pennsylvania, I include this information as I believe memories should remain with an item. However, as a historical purist, I must say this information is anecdotal as I never tried to authenticate her story. I can also deliver it to within 5 miles of any exit of Pennsylvania Turnpike I-76 between Exits 10 (New Castle) and 226 (Carlisle) in the evening of Sunday, April 24. If you want this delivered that day, you MUST contact me and make arrangements BEFORE purchasing. Please contact me with any questions.
