Field's Warehouse in New York. Most early photographs show only Fire Ruins while this photograph is Very Unique because it was taken During the Fire while the New York Five Department was still fighting the fire. The foreground of the image shows the crowds of spectators, both side of the street, while both side of street have multi - story buildings with various signs that are almost readable and a boardwalk for a sidewalk. Lower right area shows a group of men in uniform that are fireman or policeman. Center of image shows two firehouses, while left middle of view shows two Fire Hose Carts. There are several small groups of people on left side walk. Background shows lots of firemen. (who else would be near a burning building) and a large white area that probably was a combination of smoke / water/ steam. Stereoview photo has light soiling, a couple small areas with heavier soiling, slight fading while mount has soiling / staining and corner edge wear. Original paper label on back which has a small tear. Condition is very good for its age. The backmark of the stereoview reads : Anthony's Instantantanous. 255 - The Burning of was Cyrus W.

Field's Warehouse in New York Photographers will appreciate the merits of this picture when they are informed that it was taken on a dark day just previous to a heavy snow storm and with the Thermometer below 20 Fahrenheit.
